Bangladesh's First Garment Testing Lab Has Been Inaugurated

Bangladesh's first garment testing lab, set up by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to provide extended services to readymade garment (RMG) exporters at a reasonable price, has been inaugurated.

Domestic textile and garment players would be able to avail extensive and internationally-recognized testing facilities at the lab at reasonable rates, as the lab would operate on a no profit, no loss basis, BGMEA President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, said at the inaugural ceremony.

He said setting up such a high-tech lab in Bangladesh was a dream that has now turned into reality.

The lab has been set up with two main objectives. First is to warrant quality and consumer satisfaction by ensuring compliance with highest quality norms, while providing the services at considerably low rates. The other objective of setting up the lab is based on the social business philosophy.

BGMEA former President, Abdus Salam Murshedy, the main initiator of the laboratory project, said the country should undertake more such activities to offer improved services to the exporters at competitive prices.

According to D Luis Tejada Chacon, Ambassador of Spain to Bangladesh, establishment of such an advanced lab would improve Bangladeshi RMG entrepreneur's image before the world. Instead of being considered a country with struggling economy, Bangladesh would now be looked upon as a developing economy, he added.
