LARCHMONT,NY,November 30,2012/24-7PressRelease/--Clarke Auction's December 9th,2012 sale will feature an extensive and gorgeous selection of art, including over 100 paintings, important lithographs, etchings, posters and more from internationally acclaimed artists.
While there are many examples of fine art in the sale,a Joan Miro aquatint&carborundum etching takes center stage. The work is entitled"Le Cracheur de Flammes"and is pencil signed and numbered. The work is of extraordinary size and in magnificent condition. Also, this Miro was originally purchased from a San Francisco Gallery in the early 70s and makes its first market appearance since that date.
Other print highlights include several large French lithograph posters. One of note is by Toulouse-Laurtec and is entitled"May Milton."The poster shows a large figural print of the Parisian performer in a flowing dress and is monogrammed and dated in the stone lower left.
Another French lithograph by Theophile Alexandre Steinlen also featured in the December 9th sale is an advertisement for"La Traite Des Blanches,"with a Republique Francaise stamp at the top center. This is the censored version of the poster,as the first printing enraged the perisian crown when the breasts of the working girl on the far right were left exposed. Two additional French posters including a lot of two posters by Cheret, and one signed by Laurencin entitled"Bal Des Petits Lits Blancs",are also among the French lithograph selection.
Fine American prints will also be represented on December 9th at Clarke Auction.A fantastic Coney Island etching by Reginald Marsh is not to be overlooked as it is both a rare and beautiful find. Two lithographs by American regionalist,Thomas Hart Benson, are also featured in the American lithograph selection. The works, entitled"Gateside Conversation"and"Down the River"respectively, are prime examples of American lithography and they maintain strong American imagery in their content.
Beyond prints, there are numerous paintings from a multitude of international artists including a large old master landscape with figures and cattle, and an old master still life. The largest selection of fine art comes from numerous European artists from various regions.
Italian paintings include an incredible Fredrico Andreotti. The oil on canvas depicts a tavern scene with serenading cavaliers. The painting is of a most decent size and is in good condition for its age.More featured paintings from Italy include an interior wedding scene by Giuseppe Barbaglia,a still life with instruments by Walter Benoldi, and a work by Gianni Vagnetti signed and dated 1944.The Vagnetti entitled"Ragazza Con Specchio"was exhibited in the 1956 Venice Biennale and is of solid provenance.
German paintings are also featured in the European selection of fine art at Clarke Auction's December 9th Sale. The most notable works include a 1912 oil on canvas portrait by Arthur Grimm,a beautifully rendered oil of a woman plucking a chicken by Maria Lubbes, and an interesting bronze by Max Bachman of Bacchus elevated on a green stone plinth.
Outside of Europe, the upcoming Haitian artist selection is also notable.Haitian artist A.Obin leads the selection with oil on masonite of a Haitian village. In the same vein, artist P.Duffaut depicts a Haitian landscape dated 1963.Also in the selection is Phillipe-Auguste's still life oil on canvas of Haitian fruit. Finally a mixed-media of card players by artist Sasha Tebo is set to round out the selection of Haitian paintings, but a modernist bronze by Prince Monyo provides an excellent example of the array in Clarke's upcoming sale by artists of Haiti.
The fine art selection is certainly varied, but a large portion of the selection includes important portraiture of various areas and artists. For example,a few highlights of portraits in the upcoming sale include large oil by Albert C.C.Jahn of a sculptor in his studio,a George Bowers portrait of a child,as well as a charcoal of a beauty by James Montgomery Flagg,of U.S.Army poster fame.
While there is an extensive selection of landscape, figural, still life, and portraiture works in Clarke Auction's upcoming December 9th Sale, those mentioned above are just a fraction of what is available. There are over 50 additional fine art lots from a storage warehouse, and well over 100 fine art lots in total.
