Mexico's industrial production fell 2.4 percent in June year-on-year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), well below the expectations of economists who had expected a slight increase of 0.20 percent.
Compared to May, industrial production was unchanged due to declines in activity reported by the construction industry and mining being offset by gains in manufacturing, said the Institute.
Meanwhile, construction industry activity fell 1.61 percent in June, followed by mining, which recorded a decline of 0.35 percent. Manufacturing activity, which sends most of its production to the United States, rose 0.53 percent, said INEGI.
