Xylem Inc. announced the appointment of H. Balasubramaniam (“Bala”) as the company’s new managing director for Xylem in India. He joins Xylem from General Electric, where he spent more than 15 years, most recently as Business Director of the company’s locomotive projects business, and prior to that as Chief Executive Officer of GE Water Process and Technologies, South Asia.
He replaces Sam Yamdagni, who is leaving the company.
“Bala’s extensive global operations expertise and his success in growing GE’s water business in India fit perfectly with our need to develop further in this important growth market,” said Steve Loranger, CEO and president of Xylem Inc. “We will look to him to build on the foundation we’ve established, leveraging our talented team to help our existing and new customers in India solve their most challenging water issues.”
While at GE, he was also Vice President of GE Capital International Services and General Manager of Quality and Operations at the company’s Industrial Systems group. Prior to that, he held various engineering positions at Ford New Holland Tractors and Eicher-Mitsubishi. He earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering at India’s National Institute of Industrial Engineering in Mumbai, and a master’s degree in quality and statistics at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani in India. He is a certified Master Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma.
