Smurfit Kappa UK Buys Saxon Packaging

Smurfit Kappa UK has acquired Saxon Packaging, as part of its efforts to expand operations in the region.

Based in Lowestoft of Norfolk, Saxon designs and produces corrugated products, cardboard packaging and boxes.

The company provides packaging solutions for beer, wine and spirits, as well as litho printed and flexo printed packaging solutions.

In addition, the firm manufactures boxes, cases and cartons.

The company, which converts board into corrugated boxes and fitments, invested in advanced technology machinery over the past three years to offer enhanced services for customers in Suffolk, East Anglia and the Home Counties.

Smurfit Kappa UK CEO Clive Bowers said: “I am delighted with this acquisition which will integrate another strong professional management team into the Smurfit Kappa organisation.

“The culture of this company is very much aligned with the Smurfit Kappa philosophy, having built excellent businesses in selected customer and product sectors which will add to our existing strengths.

“These acquisitions support our continued drive to ‘Open the future’ within the UK packaging market, further developing our customer offer, brand and reputation in a way that truly sets us apart.”

Earlier this year, Smurfit Kappa acquired two Brazilian paper-based packaging companies, including Industria de Embalagens Santana (INPA) and Paema Embalagens, for nearly €186m.

INPA and Paema combinedly have three recycled containerboard mills with a total capacity of 210,000 tons and four corrugated facilities serving the Northeast of Brazil.

With around 370 production sites across 34 countries, Smurfit Kappa provides paper-based packaging solutions for its customers.
