Chinese Beer Industry Suffered a Negative Growth in 2014

Beer in China has become increasingly popular in the last century. Chinese beer has also seen a rise in popularity internationally in the last few decades. However, Chinese beer industry suffered a negative growth in 2014 for the first time in nearly two decades.

The top five breweries in GBO terms, China Resources Enterprise, Tsingtao Brewery, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Beijing Yanjing Brewery and Carlsberg, increased the consolidation of the beer category, with the share of these players increasing from 55% in 2008 to 68% in 2013 in volume terms.

The cumulative production of Chinese beer market in 2014 was 492.185 million kilolitres, down 0.96% on year. But sales of beer industry kept increasing to 188.62 billion yuan, up 5.1% on year.
