Packaging firm DS Smith is installing the second HP T1100S machine in a bid to expand its digital printing capabilities.
The machine is being installed at the company's facility in Fulda of Germany, helping to meet the increasing demand from the customers in the Germany and Switzerland region.
DS Smith is investing about €15m in the digital printing press, which is 40m in length and 5m in height.
The company is planning to unveil the new digital corrugated board pre-print machine in the second quarter of this year.
DS Smith, which is a pilot customer of HP, is said to be the first enterprise from the packaging industry to produce digital corrugated board pre-print.
The company installed the first HP PageWide T1100S machine at its Featherstone site in the UK.
HP PageWide T1100S machine holds capacity to digitally manage middle and large runs, allowing to reduce costs.
DS Smith Germany and Switzerland region managing director Per Vinge Frederiksen said: Our customers take centre stage in all our investments. We’re committed to boosting our customers' turnover, reducing their costs and minimising risks.
“Investment in this revolutionary digital printing technology will help us to achieve these goals in the future and add value for our customers.”
HP PageWide industrial division general manager Eric Wiesner said: “The HP PageWide T1100S Press enables DS Smith to address the broadest range of digitally pre-printed corrugated packaging applications, including the growing segment of food packaging.”
