Virtually imperceptible coating transmits, reflects true ambient color, light - PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) has introduced SOLARBAN(R) 67 glass, a solar control, low-emissivity glass with a soft, imperceptible neutral coating that gives buildings an extraordinarily crisp, clean and brilliantly clear exterior appearance along with excellent solar control performance.       

SOLARBAN(R) 67 glass by PPG is formulated with a unique low-emissivity, double-silver, magnetron-sputtered vacuum deposition (MSVD) coating that reflects the true timbre and brightness of ambient light and color more accurately and authentically than any architectural glass of its kind.

The unique low-e coating developed by PPG also enables Solarban 67 glass to provide exceptional levels of solar control performance not typically associated with highly transparent glass. In a standard 1-inch insulating glass unit (IGU) with conventional clear glass, Solarban 67 glass has visible light transmittance (VLT) of 54 percent and a solar heat gain coefficient of (SHGC) 0.29, which yields a light-to-solar gain (LSG) ratio of 1.85. Solarban 67 glass also has low levels of interior and exterior reflectance, which further enhances its ability to reflect true-to-life light and color.

 A proprietary double-silver coating developed by PPG enables SOLARBAN(R) 67 glass to deliver exceptional levels of solar control performance and transparency. In a standard 1-inch insulating glass unit (IGU) with conventional clear glass, Solarban 67 glass has visible light transmittance (VLT) of 54 percent and a solar heat gain coefficient of (SHGC) 0.29, which yields a light-to-solar gain (LSG) ratio of 1.85. Solarban 67 glass also has low levels of interior and exterior reflectance, which further enhances its ability to reflect true-to-life light and color.

Glenn Miner, PPG director, construction, flat glass, said Solarban 67 glass offers architects an entirely new aesthetic, along with solar control performance that is comparable to triple-silver glasses such as Solarban 70XL glass. “Simply put, Solarban 67 glass gives buildings a clean, crisp look that is unlike any other product on the market right now, along with the ability to meet increasingly stringent building mandates for energy efficiency and environmental performance,” he explained.

Solarban 67 glass can be specified with clear glass or with blue, green and earth-toned glasses such as ATLANTICA(R), AZURIA(R), OPTIBLUE(R), PACIFICA(R), SOLARBLUE(R) or SOLARGRAY(R) glasses on the second or third surface of an IGU. When paired with Solarban 67 glass in an IGU, these tinted glasses offer architects a full spectrum of color choices, as well as SHGCs that range from 0.19 to 0.34 and VLT of up to 42 percent.

For additional color and reflectivity options, architects can unite Solarban 67 glass in an IGU with clear or tinted glass and with VISTACOOL(R) subtly reflective or SOLARCOOL(R) traditionally reflective glasses.
