Lion Brand Yarn Company has opened a new retail store in Albany, New York called “The Lion Brand Yarn Shop.” Nicky Epstein, well-known knitwear designer and author, will be in attendance signing copies of her latest books, Crochet for Dolls, and Knits for Dolls: 25 Fun, Fabulous Outfits for 18-Inch Dolls. Additionally, goody bags will be given to the first 50 guests who arrive.
The Lion Brand Yarn Shop is located in the former space of Alfred Fabric Center Inc. –a fabric and yarn store which was once a family owned business that closed after having a 40 year presence in the capital region. Lion Brand Yarn is also a family owned and operated business which has just entered its 136th year of business, and will now continue the yarn crafting tradition in the capital region.
The Lion Brand Yarn Shop will carry a wide array of yarns including 37 yarn lines and 629 colors – making it the largest selection of Lion Brand Yarns available in one place. The new shop is part of an effort to increase Lion Brand awareness, providing people with a first-hand experience of the Lion Brand mission to inspire and educate.
Since educating yarn crafters and non-crafters alike is important to Lion Brand, the Shop will offer special monthly classes, and beginner knit and crochet classes every week with plans to expand the course catalog throughout the year.
In addition to being a yarn haven and an education center, the Lion Brand Yarn Shop also offers large project tables in the front of the store for socializing and yarn crafting; local knitting and crochet groups are encouraged to use the store space for their meetings.
