Bugatti continues to roll-out its six-strong ‘Les Legendes de Bugatti’ series, with the Bugatti Veyron Legend Meo Constantini marking the halfway point in the limited edition line.
Only three of the Bugatti Veyron Legend Meo Constantini – or, deep breath, Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse Legend Meo Constantini, to give the car its full name – will be made. It has been designed to commemorate a close friend of Ettore Bugatti’s, Meo Constantini, two-time winner of the Targa Florio endurance race, which he won racing Bugatti’s iconic Type 35. Constantini was also head of Bugatti’s factory race team for eight years, from 1927 to 1935.
“Meo Constantini embodies the most successful era in Bugatti’s racing history,” said Bugatti President Dr Wolfgang Schrieber. “When Bugatti created the Type 35, he inspired one of the most successful racing cars of all time. The Vitesse Meo Constantini is reminiscent of the Type 35.”
The Veyron’s two-tone exterior is coated in a unique hue of blue, called Bugatti Dark Blue Sport – a reference to France’s traditional motor sport colour – and clear-lacquered aluminium. Indeed, Bugatti is keen to point out it is the only production manufacturer to offer polished clear-coated aluminium bodywork.
The silhouette of the Flora Targio course is also painted on the underside of the Veyron’s enormous ‘air brake’ rear wing, and Constantini’s signature is lasered onto the car’s fuel tank and oil caps.
Inside, the Veyron Legend Meo Constantini is upholstered in cognac and dark blue coloured leather with contrast light blue stitching. The Targa Florio’s silhouette emerges yet again, a milled aluminium relief attached to the blue lacquered rear storage unit.
In case the owners tire from such detail, they can always rest their eyes on the laser engraved 1920s racing scenes on the car’s door panels. Another option for reigniting a driver’s interest in a Grand Sport Vitesse is to hit the car’s 408km/h top speed.
The Veyron Legend Meo Constantini comes after Bugatti revealed the first of its Legend series Veyrons, the Jean-Pierre Wimille edition, at California’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance last August. The Jean Bugatti edition followed soon after, at the Frankfurt motor show.
The Meo Constantini is priced from 2.09 million Euro (A$2.96 million), and only three will be made. It is currently showing in the ultra-expensive fuel-sucking machine’s natural habitat, at the Dubai motor show.
