A meeting has been held by the authorities in China's Hebei Province to discuss the environmental protection and air quality improvement plans of the province, with the focus on targeting the problem of overproduction in the local steel industry, as stated by the environmental protection authorities in the provincial government.
Accordingly, the steel production capacity in Hebei, which is the largest steel producing province in China, will be reduced by 60 million mt by the end of 2017, and will be cut by a further 26 million mt by the end of 2020.
In 2012, the finished steel output of Hebei Province was 209 million mt, up from 192.6 million mt in 2011.
