Night Light Has Won First Place in The AJ Philips Light Shots Short Film Competition

A film called Night Light has won first place in the AJ Philips Light Shots short film competition, launched by Lighting's sister title Architects' Journal and Philips.

The competition, which asked up and coming directors, architects, architecture students and lighting designers to make a 60 second film on the theme of light, has declared Stephen Citrone and Michael Wetmore's film the best.

Citrone and Wetmore, from the London-based practice Amanda Levete Architects, have been awarded a £500 cash prize and a trip to Philips' Outdoor Lighting Application Centre near Lyon.

Light Shots was judged by a panel including: creative director of Philips Lighting UK Rowena Preiss, the Oscar-winning special effects expert Laurent-Paul Robert, film maker Mark E Breeze, set designer and architect Barbara Ann Spencer and AJ editor Christine Murray. The panel praised the winning pair for their "piece of cinema verite which uses simplicity, live sound and strong narrative."

Launched in April, the competition received 55 entries on the theme of the effect of artificial light on the built environment. You can watch all the competition's short films by clicking on the video above.

Rooms by Jonny Campbell and Ollie Boaler, from Cardiff University's Welsh School of Architecture, claimed the runner up prize of a Philips Hue system.
