The PPG Industries Foundation Donated $5,000 to Support The Biomedical Sciences Programs

The PPG Industries Foundation donated $5,000 to Milwaukee Public Schools to support the biomedical sciences programs in six high schools. The grant was made on behalf of the PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) Oak Creek, Wis., industrial coatings plant and facilitated by Caterpillar, a PPG customer that sponsors programs within the district. “We appreciate PPG’s support of our biomedical sciences program, which provides students with a foundation in science and health care and specialized knowledge in biomedical areas,” said Gregory Thornton, Milwaukee Public Schools superintendent. “The students also gain exposure to the social, legal and ethical issues surrounding technological advances related to biomedical sciences.” The grant helps the district maintain high-quality, project-based learning in the biomedical sciences courses by replenishing consumable materials used by the students, such as enzymes and blood-typing kits. The program is part of an effort by the district to provide students with experiences in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). “PPG is strongly committed to supporting the communities where its employees work and live, especially through educational programs that encourage students to pursue technology-related careers,” said Jack Marshall, PPG plant manager at the Oak Creek facility. “We are happy to support the Milwaukee Public Schools’ effort to emphasize the STEM disciplines, which are very important to the future success of this region and of companies like PPG.”
