Hitachi Europe said it will co-ordinate on a new EUR4.3m pan-European research project to develop smart infrastructure to support the use of electric cars.
The project, named efficient Cooperative infrastructure for Fully Electric Vehicles (eCo-FEV), intends to develop an IT electric mobility platform.
The platform will allow the connection and information exchanges between multiple infrastructure systems that are relevant to the Fully Electric Vehicle (FEV) including road IT infrastructure, Electric Vehicle (EV) backend infrastructure and EV charging infrastructure.
The objective of the project is to propose an open architecture platform between infrastructure providers and EV drivers in order that it can be implemented in various areas.
Hitachi's contribution to the project, which will run until 2015, will be in the areas of advanced car information systems and services.
