Natural Fiber Producers (NFP), formerly known as North American Alpaca Fiber Producers, has changed its name as well as opened its organization to all natural fiber producers in North America.
NFP is an agricultural cooperative, established May 2007, with a mission of assisting farms to become self-supporting through the use of their natural fiber. NFP is the vehicle, farms utilize to get their fiber into a value added form for a higher, more sustainable return.
Between 2002 and 2007, 4,080,300 acres of agricultural land were converted to developed uses—an area nearly the size of Massachusetts. Natural fibers need to become part of the equation that saves the diversified family farm.
“We can keep doing business as usual, or we can adjust how we do agribusiness by making sure the farmer receives a reasonable return for his or her efforts and investment,” said Robyn Kuhl, NFP’s administrator. “NFP utilizes Certified Sorted® fiber only, ensuring not only a superior product, but also a superior return of profit to the farms.
