Canadian manufacturer of green packaging Cascades has announced that its plants Tissue Group in Candiac, Boxboard in Jonquière, Norampac in Cabano and the facilities in Kingsey Falls joined Hydro-Québec's network.
According to the company, the EcoElectric network comprises a group of companies that are recognized for their leadership and performance in energy efficiency.
The four units will join the company's Lupel plant in Trois-Rivières, which has been a member of the network since 2008.
Cascades GIE corporate energy director Fabien Demougeot said the recognition is part of a process of continuous improvement that will allow its other plants to become members of the network.
"Energy efficiency is one of the key objectives of our Sustainable Development Plan 2013-2015, which will be applied in all Cascades facilities," Demougeot added.
In order to reach the required level, Cascades had to reduce energy consumption by at least 5% or achieve savings of 50 GWh annually depending on the plant.
The company also needed to adopt a policy on energy efficiency and appoint a person responsible for energy efficiency.
