Unity Opto Expects First-Quarter 2013 Revenues to Show an on-Year Increase of 60%

Taiwan-based LED packaging house Unity Opto recently received an order for 20,000 street lamps from Europe, therefore, the firm expects first-quarter 2013 revenues to show an on-year increase of 60%. In addition to the street lamp orders, Unity Opto also received orders for 1.3 million LED light bulbs. According to CH Wu, chairman of Unity Opto, the LED industry will likely to improve as LED applications expand.

Unity Opto expects lighting sales to account for 30% of total revenues in 2013, higher than the 20% in 2012. The firm added that revenues from TV backlight products accounted for 70% in 2012 and expects the TV backlight sales to increase by 30% on year in 2013. Unity Opto targets 2013 revenues to reach NT$10 billion (US$343 million).

Wu is optimistic about the development of the LED lighting market. Wu stated that the firm's 8W omni-directional light bulbs have received orders of a total 7-8 million units, close to NT$1 billion, in 2013.

Unity Opto has tablet backlight device orders for brands such as Google, Asustek, Lenovo and Amazon.
