The Production by Light Industry in Uzbekistan Increased by 13.2 Percent in 2013

The production by light industry, which includes textiles and garments and footwear sectors, in Uzbekistan increased by 13.2 percent in 2013 compared to the previous year, as per the data from the information service of the State Committee on Statistics of Uzbekistan, uzdaily.uz reported.

Uzbek Textile Production Jumps 13.2% in 2013

According to the statistics, Uzbekistan’s light industry produced goods worth 7.955 trillion soums in 2013, accounting for 13 percent of the nation’s total industrial output. In 2012, the light industry’s share in total industrial production was 12.9 percent.

Segment-wise, the textile sector production rose by 11.2 percent year-on-year to 6.680 trillion soums in 2013, which included cotton production rising by 14.3 percent year-on-year, woven textiles by 5.6 percent y-o-y and knitting sector by 31.8 percent y-o-y.

During the year, the garment sector production jumped by 23.8 percent y-o-y to 718.1 billion soums, while the leather and footwear sector output grew by 20.3 percent y-o-y to 422.5 billion soums.

Compared with 2012, the production of cotton fabrics by large-scale industrial enterprises of the light industry increased by 1.4 times, while knitted fabric production rose by 1.3 times, raw silk yarn by 1.4 times and cotton by 1.2 times, while T-shirts production was up by 7.4  percent y-o-y, hosiery by 4.8 percent y-o-y and mixed fabric by 7 percent y-o-y.
