With The "Zoofenster" Building,The Capital Has a New Urban Landmark

With the “Zoofenster” building, opened in January 2013 in Berlin City West, the capital has a new urban landmark. Guests of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel enjoy the view of Berlin - just like the air traffic controllers working at Tegel Airport. This is made possible by the special glasses supplied by Flachglaswerk Radeburg GmbH – including the highly-selective solar protection and radar glasses. In total, the company supplied around 11,200m² of insulating glass.

The “Zoofenster”, whose oversized “window” is located on the eastern side of the main tower along the southern perimeter of the zoo grounds, rises to a height of 118 m. The highlights are to be found in the details: numerous different solar-protection glasses like CLIMAPLUS COOL-LITE SKN 174 and the thermal insulating glasses CLIMAPLUS ULTRA N ensure that all the year round the room climate is perfect in the luxurious rooms and suites of the Waldorf Astoria.

Magic hood as shield

The air traffic controllers at the nearby Berlin-Tegel Airport can also get on with their work without concern: the radar-absorbing glass CONTRARADAR, a special product from Flachglaswerk Radeburg GmbH, provides the building with a magic hood, so to speak. Reflections of the radar beams are reduced to such an extent that on the radar screen in the airport there are no double images of aircraft signatures.
