Toy retailers are getting behind World Book Day with a host of promotions.

Toys R Us is encouraging children to dress up for World Book Day today (pictured, March 7th). It is offering 20 per cent off Smoby products, as well as buy one get a second half price on selected Fisher-Price products.

In Smyths, children can pick up one of eight new books using a £1 World Book Day Book Token handed out in schools throughout February and March.

The token allows customers to grab one book for free and receive £1 off other books and annuals.

Dryden Geary, Marketing Manager for Smyths Toys Superstores, explained: "We’re absolutely delighted to have another brilliant range of top children’s writing talent sharing new stories especially for World Book Day 2013 and we hope to make Smyths Toys Superstores the place to start and build every young reader’s book collection. 

"We also want to encourage budding bookworms to come and visit any of our stores on March 7th dressed as their favourite book character and amaze us with their style."
