Expect automotive sales to top 16 million next year,according to Detroit-based research firm IHS Automotive.
That would be up from the 15.65 million in sales estimated for 2013,The Detroit News reported.
The auto industry has seen sales increases since 2009,when sales bottomed out at 10.4 million.Continued sales growth should prove to be a boon for Kentucky because the industry is so well-established in the state.

Toyota Motor Corp.(NYSE:TM)bases its North American manufacturing operations in Northern Kentucky.It also makes the Camry,Avalon and Venza models at its Georgetown,Ky.,plant.Additionally,the Chevy Corvette is made at a General Motors Co.(NYSE:GM)plant in Bowling Green.
Auto industry suppliers also have a major presence here.The governor's office estimates that there are about 450 automotive-related companies that employ about 80,000 workers in the state.
