Women Bike Program Recently Awarded $7,500 in Grants to Organizations in Four Cities

The League of American Bicyclists' Women Bike program recently awarded $7,500 in grants to organizations in four cities in an effort to engage more women of all ages and from all backgrounds in cycling.

"We know new ideas and initiatives are breaking ground across the country, and we want to make sure the best efforts take root and serve as examples for the rest of the nation," said Carolyn Szczepanski, League director of communications and Women Bike.

"These grants aim to provide best practices on women's bicycling outreach and engagement. So, instead of reinventing the wheel, advocates are able to quickly and effectively accelerate the energy around women's bicycling in their communities with proven strategies and key resources." ??

Recipient organizations and projects include:

?WE Bike NYC, New York City, New York, Engaging Latina Women Through Bilingual Outreach and Resources: $2,000 ?Women Bike PHL, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Girl Scouts on Wheels: $1,500 ?We Are All Mechanics, Madison, Wisconsin, scholarship program: $1,500 ?Marin County Bicycle Coalition, Fairfax, California, Women on Wheels in Spanish: $2,500

The grant money will be used to provide everything from bicycle maintenance and skills clinics to educational resources, such as a fix-a-flat guide in Spanish.

Women Bike is a program of the League of American Bicyclists that is working to encourage more women to bicycle and engage in leadership opportunities in the bicycle movement through networking, knowledge, resources and inspiration.
