German automaker Daimler is planning to extend its partnership with Volkswagen to manufacture light commercial vehicles.
Daimler head of Mercedes-Benz Vans Volker Mornhinweg was quoted by Reuters saying that "I will get together with the VW commercial vehicles chief and explore possibilities for further cooperation."
Currently, Daimler produces about 40,000 Crafter vans at a plant in Duesseldorf, Germany and the agreement is scheduled to expire in 2016.
In March 2012, Volkswagen said that it may decide not to extend the agreement with Daimler to develop the Crafter's successor model after Volkswagen acquired a majority stake in MAN in November 2011.
Earlier in 2012, Daimler and Nissan signed an agreement on trucks under which Daimler's Japanese truck unit Mitsubishi Fuso will supply its Fuso Canter light truck to Nissan.
Under the deal, Nissan will supply the Atlas F24 truck to Fuso.
