California American Water’s Folsom Pump Station has received a Project of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association Sacramento Chapter (APWA). The award, which was given in the Large Agency Division - Environmental Category for a US$500 000–US$2 million construction project, recognises public works projects that demonstrate excellence in management, administration, design, construction, community relations, and the alliance among the managing agency and the consultant/engineer/contractor that worked together to successfully complete the project. The US$2 million Folsom Pump Station Project was completed in June 2012 and provides additional surface water supplies to suburban area customers. The pump station is set to open up to the company water systems located in the Rosemont, La Riveria and Rancho Cordova areas early next year. The new pumping station has enabled these systems to receive purchased water from the City of Sacramento. Up to now, the area relied almost solely on local groundwater to supply a population of approximately 56 000. Source: filtsep
