Miit Spelt out New Guideline for Improving China's PV Industry

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has spelt out new guideline for improving China's PV industry, looking to have leading makers merge with small ones, or form strategic alliances in 2015-2017.

MIIT hopes the country's PV industry will consolidate in 2017 with 15 leading makers who will be globally competitive and have a combined 70-80% share in the domestic market. Of the 15 leading makers, the five largest polysilicon makers will account for over 80% of China's total output and the 10 largest crystalline silicon solar cell/PV module makers for over 70%.

MIIT, to facilitate the consolidation, will offer help in land acquisition, arrange bank loans, and seek support from industry associations and research organizations.

According to China-based media reports, small makers, especially those of solar cells/PV modules, will be either combined or forced out of the market in the consolidating process.
