Packaging products supplier Crown's subsidiary Crown Aerosols & Speciality Packaging Europe has partnered with Nestlé Professional to create a new packaging format for the Nescafé range of coffee brands in the UK.
Crown, in partnership with Nestlé, has developed new container in three sizes including 500g, 750g and 1kg. It comprises a three-piece tin with a rounded, rectangular shape as well as Crown's PeelSeam peelable end.
The PeelSeam peelable end features a thin, flexible aluminum foil lid, which is heat sealed to a rigid steel ring.
The new package also features a AptarGroup-developed resealable hinged-lid plastics cap designed to keep contents fresh and lock-in flavor using 'Click to Close' technology.
Crown Aerosols & Speciality Packaging Europe marketing director Véronique Curulla said: "Once again metal has presented itself as the go-to material for a world-leading brand.
"We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved with Nestlé - the new tins represent a truly collaborative effort between Crown's European teams and Nestlé's own creative group."
According to Crown, the user-friendly container's shape is more ergonomic and allows consumers to hold it with one hand for ease-of-use.
In January 2016, Crown announced its plans to build a new beverage can plant in the community of Nichols, New York, US, to meet increased demand for can sizes from beverage customers.
Planned to be launched in 2017, the new plant will be capable of producing two-piece aluminum cans in a range of sizes.
Crown Americas Division president Djalma Novaes said: "The Nichols plant will give Crown a stronger position in the specialty market and also allow us to rebalance our 12-ounce can portfolio while reducing our overall system costs, including freight."
