US agribusiness company Cargill is set to upgrade its poultry processing facility in Saraburi, Thailand with an investment of THB300m ($10m).
The project, which is expected to be completed by July 2014, includes upgrading plant's food safety system, installing efficient equipment and expanding the facility's cold storage capabilities.
The Saraburi facility manufactures a wide range of cooked poultry products for food service operators, convenience stores, food manufacturers, retailers and distributors across Asia, Europe and North America.
Recently, Cargill completed a $110m expansion of its other poultry processing facility in Korat, Thailand.
Together, the two facilities will have a production capacity of 80,000 tons per annum. The facilities are part of the company's poultry supply chain that includes breeder facilities, hatcheries, feed mills, pullet and grow out farms, processing plants and a product development facility.
Cargill Thailand president Prasit Maekwatana said that this investment enhances Cargill's ability to continue to provide its customers with the highest quality products and services.
"Our customers work each day to meet the changing demands of consumers around the world, and this investment reflects our commitment to help them succeed," Maekwatana added.
Cargill entered the Thailand market in 1968 and currently employs about 12,000 people across its ten locations. The company sources, processes and markets a wide range of products including agricultural commodities, animal feed and food and beverage ingredients.
