Swiss conglomerate Syngenta is planning to set up a corn and sunflower seed processing facility in Cordoba province, Argentina, with an investment of $50m.
The facility, located in the central region of Argentina, will supply processed seeds to Argentina and other international markets. The plant is expected to create over 2,000 job opportunities.
Syngenta chief executive officer Mike Mack said that the investment follows the recent launch of innovative seed technologies and the company's commitment to the Argentine market.
"With its wealth of agricultural resources, Argentina is ideally placed to help satisfy growing global demand for food and feed," Mack said.
The investment is a part of company's strategy to invest $176m to boost seed-production capacity in Argentina.
In November 2011, Syngenta received approval from Argentine authorities to sell a new strain of genetically modified corn seeds for 2012-13 season. The company employs 26,000 people in over 90 countries globally.
