US Domestic Raw Steel Production Was 1,919,000 Net Tons

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending August 16, 2014, US domestic raw steel production was 1,919,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 79.8 percent. Production was 1,858,000 net tons in the week ending August 16, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 77.6 percent. The current week production represents a 3.3 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending August 16, 2014 is up 1.2 percent from the previous week ending August 9, 2014 when production was 1,896,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 78.8 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through August 16, 2014 was 60,263,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 77.0 percent. That is up 0.5 percent from the 59,959,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.9 percent.
