Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) is planning to invest more than $100m at its Cambridge, Ontario facility to increase the production of Lexus RX.
As per the plan, the carmaker will hire 400 emplyees and increase the production capacity to 30,000 vehicles to 104,000 units of Lexus models including 15,000 RX450h vehicles, which is the hybrid electric variant of Lexus.
The expanded production of Lexus is expected to begin in early 2014.
TMMC president Brian Krinock said, "This is a big and ambitious project with new technology, exacting standards and tight timelines."
The current plan follows the company's production increase plans since February at its facilities in Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama and Canada.
TMMC is collectively investing nearly $745m and supporting more than 1,500 new jobs.
TMMC currently produces the Toyota Corolla, Matrix, RAV4, RAV4 EV models and the Lexus RX model at its facilities in Cambridge and Woodstock.
