Microsoft is reportedly planning to give users sampling the Windows 10 Technical Preview a chance to take Cortana for a spin as soon as January.
According to CNET’s well-connected Microsoft reporter Mary Jo Foley, the January Technical Preview (JTP) will be the first to ingrate the impressive voice-controlled personal assistant.
The system wide tool has proved popular on Windows Phone, but the holy grail for Microsoft appears to be bringing it to desktop and tablet devices.
Also, the report states, January will also see the integration of the new Continuum feature, which will allow users of tablet/laptop hybrid devices to switch between modes more easily.
The features are likely be limited to the Technical Preview right now, which is intended for experienced Windows users and tinkerers.
They are not expected to be part of the Consumer Preview which has also been rumoured to launch in January 2015.
Microsoft is expected to brief the media on its progress so far with an event on its Redmond campus in late January. Perhaps that’ll be when everyday consumers will be able to get their hands on a safer version of Windows 10 for the first time
