Swedish automotive safety systems manufacturer Autoliv is planning to invest about $13m to build a new processing facility at its Utah facility in the US.
Built to meet demand for airbag gas generant, the new facility in Promontory is expected to increase production of the firm's existing global gas generant by 20%.
In addition, the firm is also planning to invest $5m in to expand its Tremonton, Utah facility by adding 33,000ft2 to meet the rising demand for initiators and micro gas generators deployed in its airbag and seatbelt products.
The expansion of Tremonton facility will add new production lines which could assist in increasing the capacity by 30%.
Currently, the company is planning to add only two new lines at the Tremonton facility, which are scheduled to be completed in 2013 and will add 10% more initiator capacity.
In addition, Autoliv is also adding shipping and receiving docks at the Tremonton facility to assure on-time distribution to its customers worldwide.
