Scania Is Planning to Deliver 3, 000 Tier 4i Engines for Aircraft Tow Vehicles

Swedish manufacturer of commercial vehicles Scania has agreed to deliver up to 3,000 Tier 4i emission compliant engines for aircraft dispatch towing and pushback vehicles.

TLD in France, an airport ground support equipment (GSE) firm will manufature the pushback tractor TaxiBot, which is designed and developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

The pushback tractors will be available in two versions, including narrow and wide versions for the Airbus A320 and A380 series respectively.

Both the versions, TaxiBot Narrow Body and TaxiBot Wide Body, will come equipped with industrial engines supplied by Scania.

The narrow version will be powered by two 9-litre engines that will deliver an output of 294 kW each, while the wide version will use two 16-litre V8 engines developing 566 KW each.

In addition, both the engines are expected to comply with the Tier 4i emission legislation.

The TaxiBot tractors will be used to move aeroplanes between gate and runway, saving jet fuel, reducing greenhouse gas and noise emissions.
