Indian conglomerate Aditya Birla is set to establish a mega food park at Jagdishpur, Amethi district, Uttar Pradesh, through its Aditya Birla Nuvo's unit Indo Gulf Fertilisers, with an investment of INR1.5bn ($24.46m).
The Shaktiman Mega Food Park will be constructed on about 72 acres land and will feature about 35 processing units as well as backward and forward linkages for the entire food processing value chain.
In addition, it will have transportation, logistics, centralised processing centers, effective supply chain, processing, packaging and environment protection systems, quality control laboratories and trade facilitation centers.
The central processing center (CPC) will be established at Jagdishpur, while the primary processing centers will be located at Sultanpur city, Faizabad, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Lucknow, Pratapgarh, Ambedkar Nagar and Jaunpur.
The plant is expected to leverage Uttar Pradesh as a leading supplier of raw materials such as wheat, sugar, potato, milk and livestock in agriculture, reported The Financial Express citing an official of the state's agriculture department who asked not to be identified.
Aditya Birla said that the plant would benefit more than 40,000 local farmers.
The facility is estimated to generate annual revenues of INR4.5bn ($73.3m) and create 2,500 jobs. A further ancillarization process would create additional 25,000 jobs.
