Switzerland-based packaging company Tetra Pak has opened a new Coconut Knowledge Centre(CKC)and has completed expansion of its facilities at its packaging material plant in Singapore with an investment of$42m.
The company said that the CKC is expected to meet the growing needs of the South and Southeast Asia markets.
Tetra Pak vice president South and Southeast Asia Rusty Kekuewa said that the Coconut Knowledge Centre's objective is to build market and technology expertise that will extend their leadership in coconut beverage innovation.
CKC will build knowledge of coconut products such as water,milk and cream and also develop new recipes and expand knowledge share with its international network of coconut experts.
The company said that coconut water sales in Tetra Pak packages have grown by an average of 26%annually from 2007 to 2011.
It took three years to upgrade the Singapore plant and includes a new printer installation and a laminator upgrade in its packaging material factory.
