Japanese automaker Toyota Motor’s (TMC) global hybrid vehicles sales have reached four million units until April 2012, starting from its first gas-electric car launched in 1997.
The company is currently selling 18 type of hybrid vehicles in 80 countries which account 15% of its global vehicle sales this year..
Toyota's US division has sold 1.5 million hybrid vehicles in the country, further amounting to 65% of all hybrids sold in the region.
According to the company, the Prius hybrid, with sales of 1.2 million units, has comprised half of all hybrids on the road in the US, sold through April 2012.
Further to the Prius Family vehicles, the Japanese carmaker's other US hybrid models include the Camry and Highlander, featuring enhanced displacement applications of the company's Hybrid Synergy Drive.
Toyota reports that the total hybrid vehicles sold globally have generated to nearly 26 million fewer tons of C02 emissions.
