US-based Devon Medical has announced the global availability of its foot negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) dressing kit, designed for treating non-healing wounds on the toes and forefoot.
The dressing kit includes a spoon-shaped nonwoven dressing pad, a transparent polyurethane skin drape, an adhesive polyurethane suction bell with connection tubing, a silicone gel strip pack, and four nonwoven dressings for use between the toes.
In order to prevent from adhering to the skin drape, patients may use antifungal ointment or powder between the toes and petroleum jelly or ointment on the toenails.
The company has designed and developed several NPWT dressings that include three sizes of oval dressings, a sacral dressing, and an incisional dressing.
Devon Medical president Chip Ross noted the company is ecstatic to add this innovative NPWT dressing to its line of wound care products as the company believes it fills a void in patient care.
"Caring for wounds on the toes and areas of the feet with negative pressure has traditionally been very difficult, with the challenges being the formation and keeping of a seal throughout treatment as well as skin maceration.
"We expect our new foot dressing to revolutionize the way caregivers succeed in using negative pressure technology in this anatomical area of the body and hope to give more patients access to the wound healing benefits that NPWT provides," Ross added.
Devon Medical will showcase its foot dressing at the Medtrade conference in Orlando, Florida, from 8 October to 10 October 2013.
