The Holden Trax will offer city-sized SUV packaging for small-car pricing when it goes on sale in Australia in September.
Priced from $23,490 before on-road costs, the front-wheel-drive-only Trax becomes the cheapest and smallest member of Holden’s SUV range, sitting beneath the larger Captiva 5, Captiva 7 and Colorado 7 as the brand’s all-new contender in burgeoning sub-compact SUV segment.
The Barina-based Holden Trax is powered by a 103kW/175Nm 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine similar to the one found in the base model Cruze small car.
The entry-level Trax LS comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed automatic is a $2200 option. The Trax LTZ – the flagship model in the two-tier line-up – comes standard with the auto at $27,990.
The manual consumes 7.0 litres per 100km on the combined cycle, while both auto variants use 7.6L/100km – numbers roughly on par with the Cruze and only slightly higher than the Barina.
Standard features of the Holden Trax include 16-inch alloy wheels, reverse parking sensors and rear-view camera, auto headlights, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the MyLink infotainment system with seven-inch touchscreen, audio and navigation applications, Siri voice control integration, and Bluetooth phone connectivity.
For $2300 over the LS auto, the LTZ adds larger 18-inch alloys, fog lights, unique black ‘Sportec’ upholstery, heated front seats, trip computer, and a storage tray under the front passenger seat.
At 4278mm long, 1776mm wide, 1674mm tall and riding on a 2555mm wheelbase, the Holden Trax has similar dimensions to the Mitsubishi ASX. Its boot measures 356 litres with the rear seats in their natural position and 785L when folded forwards.
The Trax earned the maximum five-star safety rating from ANCAP, with both variants fitted with six airbags (dual front, side and curtains) and electronic stability control, among other active and passive systems.
The Trax is also covered by Holden’s fixed-price servicing program, which caps the cost of up to four scheduled services completed within the first three years/60,000km of ownership at $185.
