LED-Based Sales at Philips Were up 33 Per Cent in The Latest Quarter

LED-based sales at Philips were up 33 per cent in the latest quarter and now represent 30 per cent of total lighting sales according to the latest figures from the company.

Overall lighting sales increased by 3 per cent, mostly due to growth in the company’s Lumileds and Automotive divisions, followed by Light Sources and Electronics. However, comparable sales in Consumer Luminaires and Professional Lighting Solutions fell slightly. EBITA, excluding restructuring and acquisition-related charges was 10.2 per cent - a year-on-year improvement of 3.9 per cent.

Lighting growth of 3 per cent has been driven by the success of the Lumileds division

The company said it had enjoyed double-digit increases in sales in growth regions but this was partially offset by a mid-single-digit decrease in more mature geographies.

“This was another solid quarter for Philips, especially in light of the challenging global economic environment. I am pleased with the 33 per cent increase in our operational results,” said CEO Frans van Houten. “At Lighting, LED-based sales grew 33 per cent over the previous year, leading to an overall growth of 3 per cent.”

He added: “We remain committed to reaching our financial targets this year. However, ongoing headwinds in the global economy are expected to continue to affect sales growth in the coming quarters.”
