Traditionally Woven Creations Was Showed by Designer Sasiwan

Designer Sasiwan Dumrongsiri is hosting a exhibition ‘Collector’s Corner’ Chabatik on October 5.

Chabatik was established in 1988 with the aim of conserving traditional weaving skills passed down through generations and elevating the living standards of villagers in rural Thailand.

Chabatik combines traditional weaving methods with contemporary, computer generated designed mud-mee son – Double Ikat – linking the past with the future. Two groups of weavers work with Chabatik, one in the Na Pho district of Burirum, the other in Ban Huay Khi Nu, in the province of KhonKaen.

Sasiwan Dumrongsiri, who leads Chabatik, is a young and talented Thai artist who has created her own style of textile weaving. She graduated from the Department of Applied Art Decorative at Silpakorn University. Her work has been exhibited and won awards in Thailand and internationally.

For the Thai Textile Society visit to this beautiful shop, Chabatik will put on a special exhibition and Khun Sasiwan will be there to talk about her design process, the weavers and their methods, and to answer questions about the work.
