Green packaging manufacturer Cascades has announces that Greenpac Mill manufactured its first roll of lightweight linerboard at its new containerboard mill located in Niagara Falls in the state of New York.
Greenpac produces a lightweight linerboard, which is made of 100% recycled fiber, on a 328-inch machine (8.33m), with a production capacity of 540,000 short tons annually.
Greenpac was created by the company in partnership with the Caisse de dépt et placement du Québec, Jamestown Container and Containerboard Partners.
Norampac, a division of Cascades, took up the responsibility of the construction of the mill.
Norampac president and chief executive officer Marc-André Dépin said the new mill is equipped with advanced technology and the machine will enable the company to better meet the needs of its customers.
"After two years of intensive construction activity, we are anxious for the opportunity to finally be able to demonstrate the possibilities of the quality products that we will be able to offer.", added Mr. Dépin," Dépin added.
At the Greenpac Mill, water is treated and reused in order to reduce consumption as much as possible. Besides, the water treatment system generates gases that are used for steam production, to dry the paper.
Going forward, the mill will gradually increase its production until it reaches maximum production capacity.
