Forever Cheese Issued a Multistate Recallof Ricotta Salata Frescolina Cheese Products

Forever Cheese, a cheese producer based in New York, US, has issued a multistate recallof Ricotta Salata Frescolina brand cheese products, as they may be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes.

The product being recalled is Ricotta Salata Frescolina brand Forever Cheese bearing lot # T9425 and/or production code 441202.

The cheese was sold to distributors for retailers and restaurants in California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington between 20 June and 9 August 2012. It was sold to supermarkets, restaurants and wholesale distributors.

There have been 14 reported illnesses in 11 states which may be related to this product.

The potential for contamination was detected after illness was reported in connection with eating cheese. The company noted that distributors and retailers are being contacted in an effort to recall any and all remaining product in the marketplace.

Listeria Monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
