As Energy Prices Continue to Rise,Consumers Check If They're Getting The Lowest Tariff

As energy prices continue to rise, consumers are regularly reminded to check the market to ensure they're getting the lowest tariff available.

But finding the best deal on electricity can be a bit of a daunting prospect, and it's easy to see why many people simply don't bother comparing prices.

Anthony Ainsworth, sales and marketing director from E.ON explains:"There is something like 120 different tariffs out there in the marketplace and seven out of ten people in the UK are not engaged in the marketplace and do find the tariffs quite confusing."

He says that E.ON has worked to reduce their tariffs, and they now offer no more than five options to new customers in order to simplify the process.

"We've made it very easy to compare between our fixed tariffs and our variable tariffs and we've launched a new tool which you can access online and check that you are in the best deal for you,"he adds.

But saving money on your utility bills isn't just about finding the lowest-priced tariff, and Anthony explains that there are a number of other ways to reduce your spend on electricity.

For example,he recommends checking your thermostat-and consider reducing the temperature slightly."Just turning that down one degree can save£40 a year,"he explains.

He adds:"Make sure that you're heating the rooms that you have to and that you stay warm in those rooms.Keep the lights on in the rooms where you need to keep them on,but not in others."

Installing low voltage downlights and using energy saving bulbs-such as LED lights-can also make a big difference on your energy bill.

These bulbs use significantly less power than incandescent and halogen bulbs, while offering bright white illumination. They also have significantly longer life spans,so you won't have to replace them as often, helping you to save even more money.

Mr Ainsworth also points out that E.ON is working in partnership with Age UK to provide special energy tariffs for consumers over the age of 60."Through the winter,we would encourage people to make sure that they stay secure and warm,"he concludes.
