Ball Corporation has increased its production capacity with the opening of a new aluminum aerosol can plant in northwest city of Ahmedabad, India.
The move is in line with the company's Drive for 10 vision strategy of expanding its presence to new geographic regions.
The Drive for 10 vision is also aimed at maximizing value in the company's existing businesses, expanding into new products and capabilities, as well as aligning the company with right customers and markets.
With the addition of the new plant, Ball will be able to cater to increasing consumer demand for aerosol cans in the country.
Ball offers both three-piece tinplate aerosol cans and extruded aluminum cans. It also manufactures aluminum slugs, which are used in the production of impact extruded aluminum cans.
Commenting on the development, Ball Corporation global metal food & household products packaging chief operating officer Michael Feldser said: "With our strong foundation in aluminum aerosol manufacturing, this new plant allows us to enter the rapidly expanding India market and meet the needs of regional customers, as well as our existing global customers."
In July this year, Ball announced plans to cease beverage packaging end-making operations at its Bristol plant in Virginia, next year.
Upon closure, the facility's production will transferred to other Ball units in the US.
Ball Corporation supplies metal packaging services to the beverage, food and household sectors.
Earlier this year, the company purchased two metal end and closure facilities in Canton, Ohio, from Sonoco.
Ball employs over 14,500 people and it generated $8.6bn in sales last year.
