GM Has Commenced Construction of a New $200m Facility in Arlington, Texas

US carmaker General Motors (GM) has commenced construction of a new $200m facility at its Arlington manufacturing plant in Texas.

The investment on the new stamping plant is part of the company's $500m investment programme made in Arlington, to expand the body shop and purchase tooling and equipment.

The new facility will manufacture large, metal stampings, including doors, hoods and side panels, for the SUVs built at GM Arlington, which produces Chevrolet Tahoes, Suburbans, GMC Yukons and Cadillac Escalades.

GM said that the new stamping facility will begin its operations next year and is expected to save about $40m a year in logistics costs.

The company's Arlington plant employs about 2,500 employees and produces about1,100 SUVs per day.
