Owens & Minor has purchased an European healthcare third-party logistics (3PL) business, Movianto Group, from Celesio, for approximately €130m ($163m) in cash.
The acquisition will enable Owens & Minor to offer healthcare manufacturers in the US and Europe expanded global reach.
Movianto is involved in providing value-added services including repackaging and relabeling of products as well as warehousing, transportation, and cold chain logistics services to medical device and pharmaceutical industries.
Movianto said ts operational capabilities and services are complementary to OM HealthCare's Logistics and Owens & Minor's domestic healthcare 3PL service.
Owens & Minor president and chief executive officer Craig Smith said Movianto provides the company with a premier European healthcare logistics service and also gives it a global platform from which to serve its healthcare manufacturer customers.
"This acquisition immediately increases our scope and scale in the third party logistics arena," Smith added.
"Our manufacturer partners are asking for our assistance on a global basis, and now, with Movianto, we can offer them a comprehensive 3PL solution."
