The Holden VF Commodore has been awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating, earning praise from the independent local crash-tester for its wide range of driver assist technologies and global safety focus.
The all-new Commodore scored 35.06 points out of 37, scoring maximum points in all but the frontal offset crash test component where it managed 14.06 out of 16. The five-star rating applies to all Holden VF Commodore sedan, wagon and ute variants, as well as the new Holden WN Caprice.
ANCAP’s report explains Holden’s new large car offers ‘acceptable’ driver chest and front occupant leg protection, while offering ‘good’ protection in all other measures across the frontal offset, side impact, pole and whiplash tests.
Room for improvement lies in the area of pedestrian safety, however, where the Holden VF Commodore was judged to offer ‘marginal’ protection with a score of 15.41 points out of 36.
Standard features include six airbags (dual front, side and curtains), electronic stability control, trailer stability control, intelligent seatbelt reminders, rear-view camera and front and rear parking sensors, while features available on high-grade models include forward collision alert, lane departure warning, blind spot alert, reverse traffic alert and head-up display.
Meanwhile, the Audi A3 became the highest scoring small car according to ANCAP’s data, recording an overall crash test score of 36.41 out of 37.
The A3 (pictured above) offers impressive front occupant protection in the frontal offset, side impact, pole and whiplash crash test components, and also provides ‘acceptable’ protection for pedestrians.
Seven airbags are standard, while advanced features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane support systems are available optionally and on high-grade models.
The Nissan Pulsar sedan also secured a five-star ANCAP safety rating with a score of 32.67 out of 37. The small car offers reasonable protection to front occupants in front, side and pole impacts, as well as ‘acceptable’ whiplash and pedestrian protection.
The Pulsar comes standard with six airbags, electronic stability control, and intelligent seatbelt reminders for front-seat passengers.
