South Korea's Chosun Ilbo newspaper said Chinese alcoholic drinks were taking off among Korean consumers. The sales of Kaoliang spirit, Erguotou and other Chinese wine surpassed Japanese sake in Korean traditional importing alcoholic drinks market. Chinese Tsingtao Brewery was more popular than Budweiser and Miller Beer from America.
LOTTE Mart, Korea’s leading discount store operated by distribution giant Lotte Since, said Chinese traditional alcoholic drinks account for 54% of the import, more than 46% of Japanese Sake.
By the end of June of last year, traditional Chinese wines had 35.8% market share, just one half of Japanese Sake's 64.2%. Chinese beer such as Tsingtao Brewery accounted for 43.8% of beer sold in LOTTE Mart.
The product owner of LOTTE Mart said that Chinese wine's sales kept increasing with the growth of floating population from China and Chinese tourists.
