Swedish Basic Metal Output Down 1.6% in May From April

In Sweden, industrial production decreased by 3.2 percent in May this year compared to April and by 2.2 percent year on year in working day-adjusted figures, according to Statistics Sweden (SCB).

On the other hand, the production index for the Swedish basic metal industry decreased by 1.6 percent in May this year compared to the previous month, while increasing by 1.3 percent year on year. In the month in question, the country's manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, decreased by 4.3 month on month and by 6.8 percent compared to May 2013. Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year, basic metal production in the country increased by two percent and manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, rose by 1.2 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

On month-on-month basis, new orders for Swedish industry registered a decrease of 2.2 percent in May of the current year, while new orders in the given month decreased by 1.4 percent in working day-adjusted figures compared to May 2013.

In May this year, new orders for basic metals in Sweden rose by 11 percent compared to the same month of 2013, including a 6.6 percent increase in domestic orders and a 13.4 percent rise in export orders, while new orders for basic metals were down 0.7 percent compared to April. Meanwhile, new orders for the Swedish fabricated metal products industry, except machinery and equipment, decreased by 3.7 percent in May on year-on-year basis.
