Samsung Electronics America, a provider of consumer electronics and home appliance products, has announced the commercial release of its XGEO GC80 digital radiology system in the US.
The system uses a Samsung TFT-based flat panel detector and integrates the company's Adaptive Local Contrast Stretching (ALCOS) software.
ALCOS is a post image processing technology that provides qualified images for diagnoses by applying high resolution image contrast and edge sharpness enhancement functions.
According to the company, the ergonomic design features complement the Samsung XGEO GC80's advanced image quality.
The device incorporates the company's sophisticated robotics technology, which allows the users to reposition the tube head unit with an easy movement.
Samsung's XGEO GC80 system has dedicated 'auto' features, including positioning, tracking and parking, and also has audio/visual indicators that highlight each procedural step.
Samsung Enterprise Business division Health and Medical Equipment group vice president Doug Ryan noted the Samsung XGEO GC80 will provide an innovative alternative in the digital radiology market, leveraging the company's deep expertise in advanced imaging technology and ergonomic design.
"The Samsung XGEO GC80 provides exceptional image quality and departmental workflows through automation that is essential for both provider and patient care," Ryan added.
Samsung XGEO GC80 also received Gold Awards from both iF (iF International Forum) and IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards).
The Samsung XGEO GC80 has already obtained 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration earlier this year.
